The Parish Meeting

Welcome to West Haddlesey Parish Meeting.

The Parish Meeting is the bottom rung in the ladder of local government administration.

Our vision is to improve the quality of life for people of the Parish; building upon the character and community spirit within the Parish, addressing their needs and encouraging all social sectors of the community to develop as an inclusive and vibrant community.

The Parish Meeting aims to:

1. Improve the development, appearance, and environment in which we live ensuring that changes do not cause future harm and striving for Net Zero as a community.

2. Be a strong voice on behalf of local people and represent their views.

3. Provide effective, efficient and accountable local government for the parish supporting community-based activities whilst operating within agreed budgets and complying with current legislation and best practices.

The Parish Meeting is responsible for preparing an annual budget and raises money (as part of the council tax) which it uses towards the upkeep of the Parish. We are responsible for street lighting, grass cutting and playpark maintenance.

We work with North Yorkshire County Council on other matters such as roads, footpaths, planning applications, litter bins and street cleaning.

There are two main meetings, to which all those who live in the village are invited to attend, usually held in the George and Dragon, in May and November of each year.

Minutes of previous meetings dating back to 1989 are available below, as are the annual financial returns of the parish back to 2006.

The Parish Meeting is run in accordance with its constitution, which can be viewed online here, and the officers of the Parish Meeting are bound by the Parish Meeting’s code of conduct, which can be viewed online here.

The Committee meets as and when required to ensure that any issues arising in the village are dealt with, and can be reached individually at the numbers shown below, or via the centralised email address at info@westhaddlesey.org.uk.
